Loan Deferment Seminar

The WashU Postdoc Society will be having an informal round table discussion for postdocs who are interested in deferring student loans acquired during undergraduate/graduate school. On most applications for student loan deferral, it appears that medical residents (MDs) are eligible for loan deferral whereas postdocs (PhDs) are not. Come meet Trent Moreland, who was successful in obtaining student loan deferral as PhD postdoc. Pizza and soda will be provided.

Dr. Erika Pearce will be sharing her experiences as a young professor transitioning gracefully in the world of academia. After receiving her Ph.D. in 2005 from University of Pennsylvania, she went on to a very successful postdoc that helped her to land a position as an assistant member at the Trudeau Institute. Within the last year she has begun an assistant professorship at Washington University while raising kids and securing funding from the NIH and private foundations. Please join us for an informal conversation with Dr. Erika Pearce. Coffee and bagels will be provided.

The Wash U Postdoc Society will host Dr. John Edwards, Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, for its monthly coffee hour series. Dr. Edwards is a recipient of the NIH Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00). He served as a postdoctoral researcher and research scientist at the Columbia University Genome Center before starting his laboratory in the Center for Pharmacogenomics in 2009. He will discuss his experiences applying and interviewing for faculty positions and his first year of setting up his new laboratory. Coffee, bagels and lively discussion will be provided.
