Edwin S. Flores, Ph.D., J.D., is a founder and the managing partner of the intellectual property law firm, Chalker Flores, LLP, in Dallas, Texas. Edwin was born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico where he attended the American School. Next, Edwin attended The University of Texas at Austin where he received a BS degree in microbiology. Edwin earned his Ph.D. in immunology from Washington University in St. Louis and his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law. Edwin’s doctoral work included the isolation and characterization of a novel, immune-specific protein-tyrosine phosphatase.
Immediately after earning his PhD and before attending law school, Edwin worked as a scientific advisor in the biotechnology section of the prestigious law firm of Arnold, White & Durkee in Austin, Texas. After law school, Edwin joined the law firm of Warren & Perez, which merged into the 300-lawyer firm Gardere, Wynne, Sewell LLP. While at Gardere, Edwin served as an Assistant District Attorney in Dallas County as part of the Lawyer-on-Loan program. In 2002, Edwin co-founded Chalker Flores, LLP, a law firm with an emphasis on the preparation and prosecution of patents for universities, focusing on biotechnology, medical devices, nanotechnology and cross-over technologies between biology and information technologies, semiconductors and telecommunications. Chalker Flores, LLP also provides corporate and litigation services.
Edwin is a strong believer in community service. In May 2005, Edwin was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Dallas Independent School District. More recently, Edwin was appointed to the Advisory Council to the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and represents also NIGMS on the Council of Councils of the NIH.
Dr. Flores also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science, The Boy Scouts Circle 10 Council and the internationally-recognized SMU Tate Distinguished Lecture Series. |
