Instructions for Completing the Online Application

For Admission to the 2018 Summer Research Programs
Amgen Scholars, BioMedRAP, and BP-ENDURE

Check back in the fall for the application to the 2019 summer programs

2018 Program Dates:  May 29 - August 3, 2018

Carefully complete all parts of the on-line application before submitting.  
PLEASE NOTE:  You can start the online application process and come back as many times as you need to, however, you will not be able to return to the application to make changes after pressing “submit.”  When completing your personal statement, you may directly type in the space provided or paste information from another source, such as a Word Document.

Please remember the following when submitting application materials:

  • Addresses, Telephone Numbers, E-mail:  The information that you report in the on-line application will be used to contact you December 2017 through April 2018.  Please inform us immediately if your contact information changes during this time period.

  • Transcripts:  Please do not mail official transcripts unless the Program Staff specifically requests the transcript.
    • As part of the online application, upload a scanned transcript from each post-secondary institution you have or are currently attending (beginning of undergraduate education through Fall 2017 semester or quarter).  Please include the transcript key (that is normally located on the back page of the official transcript).
    • The scanned transcript must be issued by the Registrar’s Office.  We will not accept a transcript that is downloaded from the University’s web site.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please contact us.
    • Scan the transcript as a high resolution PDF and make sure each page is legible before uploading it.  Upload the transcript from each institution as a single document.
    • Unofficial transcripts will be used in the review process. If selected as an Amgen Scholar or BioMedRAP participant, you must submit official transcript(s).
    • Transcripts must be in English, or be accompanied by notarized translations.
    • All participants will be requested to send an official final transcript to the Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences before matriculation into the program.
    • The Amgen Scholars Program and BioMedRAP at Washington University in St. Louis reserves the right to rescind any offer of admission if discrepancies are found between your uploaded transcript and the official transcript.
  • Recommendation Letters:   Two letters of recommendation are required.  If you have previous research experience, the review committee requests that one of the letters of recommendation be completed by your research mentor.
    • An email will be generated and sent to your recommender requesting that they complete their recommendation electronically, including full instructions to do so, when you click the “Send Reference #1 Email" and "Send Reference #2 Email” buttons, located under the Faculty Reference tab on the application.
    • While we strongly encourage you to submit your application once all required fields are completed, your application will not be considered complete until both letters of recommendation are received.
    • Please make your recommenders aware that they will be receiving an email containing a link to an electronic web form for recommendations, from  Due to the numerous applications we receive, you are required to confirm your recommender has received the electronic recommendation request.  If your recommender has not received the request please ask him or her to check spam and junk mail folders.  If this does not resolve the issue, please ask the recommender to submit the recommendation to Joel Dalton at
