Research Abstract:

Our group is primarily involved in the design and development of biological sensors and bio-inspired sensors. We employ two important transduction platforms to realize the sensors mentioned above: (i) surface enhanced Raman scattering and (ii) localized surface plasmon resonance. Both transduction platforms rely on metal nanostructures functionalized with various biomolecules such as proteins, peptides, and nucleic acids. While biosensors research primarily focuses on early detection of cancer by functionalizing metal nanostructures with capture antibodies (natural and synthetic), which are specific to the target biomolecules, bio-inspired research involves the use of biomolecules that can bind to analytes of interest (explosives and toxic industrial chemicals).
