Research summary
Unbiased interdisciplinary investigation of age-related genes

Under the guidance of Dr. Roberto Civitelli, I am investigating the role of genes consistently differentially expressed with age. While these genes are the subject of innumerable studies comparing tissues from young and old donors, such studies only describe associations, failing to distinguish drivers of aging from compensatory geroprotective responses and meaningless downstream effects. To address this critical flaw, we developed a workflow to synthesize these data, pinpoint the most consistent expression patterns, and conduct functional experiments to characterize how modulating each pattern affects lifespan and cellular senescence.
