Research summary
Identifying drivers of aging among genes differentially expressed with age

Under the guidance of Drs. Tim Peterson and Roberto Civitelli,  I am investigating the importance of genes frequently differentially expressed with age. While these genes are the subject of innumerable studies comparing tissues from young and old donors, there has been surprisingly little functional follow-up. I have developed a three-pronged approach to tackle this problem: I employ computational techniques to analyze trends in published gene expression studies (1), after which I probe the functional effects of modulating genes of interest, both in vivo in C. elegans (2) and in vivo in cells isolated from human bone marrow (3).
