Research summary
Method development for single-cell data analysis with new mathematical theory.

Defining and identifying cell types is a remaining challenge for single-cell data analyses due to the lack of a rigorous theoretical foundation. My current research focus on filling this gap through a mathematical lens. The key underlying theory posits that the non-negative, additive nature of single-cell omics data contains a special geometric structure that can be exploited for robust cell type identification and classification. Under this formulation, I have proved a new a mathematical theorem that provides an unified geometrical view of genes and cells. With that theorem, the gene co-expression structure can be easily utilized for defining, and classifying cell populations through geometric-aware algorithms.
