Student career, training & professional development funds

The Division provides DBBS students with a $1000 allowance to be used toward career, training, and professional development expenses upon completion of appropriate milestones.

Career development takes many forms. Central repositories of career development opportunities can be found here PhD & Postdoc – Center for Career Engagement and here Career Development. Many student groups have a career focus, and DBBS hosts workshops and panels specific to the biosciences.

In addition to the above opportunities, students may engage in a Mentored Professional Experience (MPE). MPEs are unpaid experiences that allow students to develop skills and experiences relevant to their intended career outcomes. These experiences could include, for example, opportunities in industry, communication and outreach, government or policy, consulting, or higher education administration. The duties and responsibilities of the MPE should be intellectually substantive and offer opportunities for the student to develop new skills and experiences
