Research summary
Role of sensory neurons in Alzheimer’s with a focus on the meninges and neuroimmune interactions in the lung post injury and development of pathology.

I currently have two distinct projects as a PhD student in Dr. Felipe Ribeiro’s lab. The first is to explore the role of sensory neurons in the meninges in Alzheimer’s disease. The field of neuroimmunology has grown significantly in recent years and we believe that there are unexplored neuroimmune interactions being driven by sensory neurons that may have effects on learning and memory, immune cell infiltration, and relevance to plaque formation and pathology. We are exploring these connections in mice using in vivo to ex vivo to in vitro modeling and assessing behavior, cellular/morphological, and transcript/protein associated changes.

My second project will focus on the role of neuroimmune interactions in predisposition of pathologies post injury with a specific interest in lung transplant as the mode of injury and lung pathologies such as cancer as the outcome.
